Why Digital Math Adventures?

Word problems have always been a struggle. The first time I did one of these escape room-style adventures with my students I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Students working together, encouraging each other, assigning jobs within their groups to read aloud, taking turns talking, and using academic discourse we always encourage. Yes, they were doing it because they wanted to be the first group done. But they were doing it, and they were doing it well.

This is a differentiated set of two no-prep, high-engagement escape room-style activities aligned to both 4th and 5th grade math standards.

The Google Form will give students access to a website that will take them through the activity. They must find hidden clues in the pictures, which will reveal questions that correspond to their Google Form. All of the questions are hidden on the website. Once they have found the question, they input the answer on the Google Form. As they correctly answer questions, they will advance through the activity until they reach the buried treasure!
